What do we do

Chelmsford Mountaineering Club, (The CMC) is a relatively small (approx. 80 members) but very friendly and highly active mountaineering club, with members across a wide range of ages and abilities. Our club is BMC affiliated and our ethos is to actively participate in mountaineering pursuits, in a safe and enjoyable way. We meet every Wednesday night at Writtle College climbing wall, and afterwards in a local pub.

Our membership has a strong rock climbing interest, and we regularly run trips to the Lakes, North Wales, Peaks, Scotland and Cornwall. We actively have a go at anything from sports routes to sea stacks, to big trad multi pitch mountain routes, we're there doing it (we've also got a few boulderers and a ski mountaineer). Plus we also have (and actively encourage) members who enjoy mountain walking and have trips to N.Wales, Peaks, and Scotland in winter and summer to enjoy these areas.

Members also arrange their own trips, anything from a day down at Swanage to Alpine climbing trips, to trekking in the Himalaya, and with some members summiting in the greater ranges. See our MEETS LIST for details of club meets. Then come along, join up and get involved.

There is a wealth of experience within our club that you can learn from, and we have organised training for club members including Scottish Winter Skills courses, Alpine training, First Aid, Self Rescue and Navigation Skills.

Your willingness to come along and get involved in the club and have a good time is more important than the grade you climb.

We also have a number of social events during the year. Rangeing from going out for a Curry, Summer BBQ to our annual Christmas dinner....not to be missed!
