On Saturday morning, myself, Cat and Toby drove up from Chelmsford and headed straight to New Mills Tor to escape the weather. Some of the climbing at New Mills is underneath the stone bridge, meaning it stays dry even in what can only be described as monsoon conditions.
We spent some time going through a few self-rescue techniques with Toby, having recently completed a self-rescue course at Plas y Brenin. Always useful to refresh these skills and put them into practice.
Luke B and Quinn then turned up, with Luke climbing some of the sport routes on the bridge itself, whilst Toby and I ran through some trad gear placement/removal and abseils with Quinn. Toby then led Cracked Corner HS 4b, adding to his growing list of HS leads, and Luke led the chossy Deception HVS 5a.
Meanwhile, Imogen, Josh and Paul completed a hike, ticking off a few crag areas. They started at surprise view, then burbage- round to Yarncliff and back.
On Saturday night, we met up with the rest of the group and headed to the pub for some food and a catch-up before another day of climbing.
With the weather improving on Sunday, we headed over to Burbage North, where everybody managed to get some climbs in at a variety of grades. Billy and Kateryne spent the day consolidating their climbing, Quinn and Ethan were getting more exposure to outdoor climbing and their first experience of climbing on 'God's own rock'. Alex B and Josh added to their list of HVS leads, both leading the excellent Knights Move HVS 5a; we had a team ascent of 5 go up Long Tall Sally E1 5b, and everyone else clocking up more climbs than can be listed.
A great day out, with fantastic weather and a bit of something for everyone.
Another good weekend with the club, making the most of the great conditions on Sunday.
