Mammut Crag Classic 9.8mm & Beal Karma 9.8mm Rope Short Reviews

Mammut Crag Classic 9.8mm Rope

This is my second rope purchase but is almost identical in specs: 9.8mm dynamic rope. However, it does feel much more premium compared to my Beal Karma purchased from my favourite outdoor climbing store, whilst visiting York and Brimham Rocks.

At 9.8mm it feels nice and thick in the hand but still runs silky smooth through my belay devices, although, truth be told, I haven’t used this rope yet. I’m hoping it will feed more smoothly up clipped quickdraws when giving slack when lead climbing than my Beal rope.

Beal Karma 9.8mm Rope

Available at your favourite local climbing store at an unbeatable price. Every other rope owner in the CMC has either previously bought this rope, or is currently using it in the climbing gym!

Is it the best? No… but you can pick one up today, minutes before your next climbing session in various different lengths, probably all over the UK. For your first rope, or for a backup, it’s a no-brainer.
